1 Sam 6:7But
the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height
of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for
man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."
In the Old Testament Samaria was besieged
by the Syrian army. They cut out all supplies, until famine came to the city. It
was some horrible scenes going on inside of Samaria. People did crazy things
out of desperation and starvation. When the King heard one of the horrible
stories, he tore apart his royal clothes, and made everyone see, that on the inside he
was clothed in sackcloth. It was a sign of mourning, sorrow and grief. This also
portraits a truth worth meditating on. Many people today may seem successful
and happy on the outside, but are sad, empty and grieving on the inside. They may look rich on the outside, but are poor on the inside. It was the opposite with Jesus.
Hanging on the cross, they had taken his robe, put a crown of thorns on his
head. He was bloody, and Isaiah wrote he was like one you turned away from. But
on the inside, he was glorious. He was the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
