Phil 1:6Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
A friend of mine had to write an essay for homework in Junior High. Writing essays was not her strongest skill, so she asked her little sister to write for her. Almost finished she gave the paper back to her sister, and told her to finish it her self, since she had an appointment to make. She finished the story, and delivered the paper the next day. When the paper was returned from the teacher, this is what it said: You have really improved, and have written a really good essay. However, you fell back to old habits in the end, and didn’t finish as well as you started.
In Gal 3:3, Paul asks the Galatian church: “Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?” In other words, God started the work in you, but now, you have taken over the pen to write yourself? Don’t mess up a great story, but give the pen back to the Master. If you have taken over the pen in your life, I will encourage you to give it back. Let the one who started the story finish it. When I look at empty chairs in church, I see people that have taken the pen away from the master to take over the writing themselves. When the paper will be returned one day, it will say that you didn’t finish as well as you started. You messed up what could be a great story.
What is the difference of Peter and Judas? They both messed up and betrayed their Master. But only one gave the pen back, while the other decided to finish his story. If you have messed up, just give the pen back, and he will write something beautiful out of it.
Jesus is the AUTHOR and the FINISHER of our faith. Let the author finish it. He will finish what he started if you let him.
