Wait for the answer

John 18:38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.

Pilate asks Jesus this very important question, and then he does not wait for the answer. He is unaware that he stands in front the one that IS truth. Not only does Jesus have truth, but he IS the truth. Of all people he could ever ask this question, there has never been, and will never be any one more qualified to answer this life important question. Still, Pilate walks away, not expecting Jesus to be able to answer it. Oh, how I would have loved to hear Jesus response. I wonder what Jesus would have said to him. Maybe he would have said: Truth is not a what, but rather a who, and this who stands in front of you.

But sometimes I think also we do the same mistake as Pilate. We pray and ask Jesus, and then we walk away without waiting for the answer. Praying should be a two way communication. Psalm 46:10 tells us to be still, and know he is God. Sometimes in prayer, we need to learn how to be still. Seeking and listening for his voice. I wonder if that is what Jesus mean when he first tells us to pray, and then to seek. Maybe the prayer is us talking, and the seeking is listening for his voice. Then we can knock and check if the door has been opened. :-)
