Faith as the mustard seed

Matt 18:20 ”verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”

This verse have been used many times, and quoted many times encourage little faith. Mustard seed is one of the smallest seed known; yet it can grow a tree. But Jesus is not talking about or commending little faith. It you read the whole story, you will find that Jesus had just rebuked his disciples for their LITTLE faith. So, on the contrary, he is talking about the GREAT faith of the small mustard seed.
What he is trying to communicate to his disciples is that no matter how small and insignificant you may feel, with faith, you can do anything. He said if you have faith as the mustard seed, not as the size of the mustard seed. The mustard seed is not used to exemplify the size of our faith, but rather the size of our resources. The Bible is full of examples of that. David was small in size and in resources, but he had great faith in his God. Compared to Goliath, he may have looked like mustard seed, but still he conquered Goliath. Gideon with his 300 men may have looked like a mustard seed compared to the 100 000 strong Midianite army, but with great faith they still conquered the overwhelming bigger army. The Prophet Elijah may have looked like a mustard seed compared to the 400 prophets of Baal, but still with faith, he was able to prove them all wrong.
You may feel small and insignificant, but remember what Jesus told us: With Faith, NOTHING shall be impossible. Now our faith is not great in itself. It is not like that you can do anything, only if you believe it strong enough. No, our faith is only strong when it is in Jesus. So, if we believe in what he said, and act on his word, NOTHING shall be impossible. Even for us… the mustard seed.
